|Students and their families are encouraged to use a variety of information sources
to select a college and major. The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) provides one such source that is available here. We provide students the opportunity to obtain a nationally recognized career readiness certificate at our local public high school/Career Technical Center, our local community college, or workforce center.
This is notification to students and parents of the availability of dual enrollment and advanced placement classes; career and technical education programs, including internships, externships, apprenticeships, credentialing programs, certification programs, licensure programs, and other work-based learning experiences; the International Baccalaureate Program and Academic Year Governor's School Programs. Parents and students may get more details on the the qualifications for enrolling in such classes, programs, and experiences; and the availability of financial assistance to low-income and needy students to take the advanced placement and International Baccalaureate examinations from the high school Counselors at their respective schools (Central High, Eastside High, and Union High). Wise County has an agreement with the local community college to enable students to complete an associate degree or a one-year Uniform Certificate of General Studies concurrent with a high school diploma.
